Though commonplace in other parts of the world, until recently, it was virtually unheard of in North America to utilize the placenta in the postpartum period.
As Midwives and complementary and alternative medical practitioners (Naturopaths, Herbalists and Homeopaths etc.) have become more widely accepted in the mainstream community we are slowly but surely seeing an increase in Mothers who are interested in Placetophagy. Many Mothers have added to the dialogue by openly discussing their positive lived experiences in consuming their placentas. However, any potential benefits are considered anecdotal evidence within western scientific communities at this time, though research into human placentophagy has begun in some academic institutions.
We offer our services for Women who would like to have their placenta processed and encapsulated for their own personal use, rather than do it themselves during the busy postpartum period.

Instructions For Parents
- Let your care provider / nurse know that you are planning to keep your placenta.
- Bring a cooler bag, two ziplock bags (one for the placenta and one to fill with ice) with your birthing bag.
- Place the placenta in a ziplock bag and into an insulated cooler bag with ice as soon as possible.
- Please call our number (anytime between 8am and 8pm) 1-587-333-6561 and press 2 to speak to Ericka. She will arrange for a time to pick up the placenta.
If baby is born during the night, ensure the placenta stays in the fridge or freezer (if a fridge is not available) until you are able to call us in the morning. Safe handling of your placenta is absolutely required in order for us to encapsulate (Please see the Service Agreement & Order Form above).
